BAL @ NYY: Sonny for the Sweep?

New, comments

The Yankees go for their fifth straight win Sunday (or Sonday) afternoon

Adam Hunger-USA TODAY Sports

It's really hard to sweep a four game series. Part of the magic/nonsense of baseball is that good teams lose to bad teams all the time, and over four games a good team might just back into a loss out of luck. In 2017, only 12.86% of four game series have ended in a sweep.

The Yankees have a pretty good chance of pulling off that feat today, though. Sonny Gray, he of the .606 OPS against in the second half, was tabbed to start today, taking CC Sabathia's spot in the rotation. In Gray's only previous start against Baltimore, two weeks ago, he pitched into the sixth without allowing an earned run.

Of course, much has been made of Gray's abysmal run support in 2017. Fortunately, not-really-an-MLB-starting-pitcher Ubaldo Jimenez takes the hill for Baltimore. Win or lose, the righthander and his 6.75 ERA should be in for an interesting time with the Yankees red-hot offense.

Catch first pitch at 1:05pm EDT, on YES and WFAN.
