If the Yankees’ season were a Hollywood movie, this would be the point in the story where a rousing speech would give them the spirit and will needed to blow through the competition for the rest of the season. This season is not a Hollywood movie, however, and the Yankees are going to have to find a different way to wake themselves up for Saturday’s game in Cleveland.
Jordan Montgomery will be the second straight lefthander to get the start in this series, and will be tasked with improving his own recent stretch of ineffectiveness. Last Sunday Montgomery didn’t get out of the third inning against the Rays, and with questions surrounding his fatigue levels, tonight would be his best chance to re-assert himself in the rotation.
Earlier today, Matt Holliday was revealed to have tweaked his back. Joe Girardi indicated it could be a 10-day disabled list injury. Gary Sanchez, with six extra-base hits in his last nine games, will fill in at DH. Chase Headley moves up in the lineup’s second slot, giving Clint Frazier the day off. The presumptive MVP has torn up opposing pitching in the second half, with a 144 wRC+. Hopefully that will continue and the Yankee offense will bust out after a quiet week.
First pitch comes to you at 7:10 PM, on YES and WFAN.
