A three-game losing streak is certainly not a free fall. In a long season, there are bound to be skids. But, for the Yankees, there are only two games separating them from the first-place Red Sox. ith Boston facing the lackluster White Sox in a four-game set, every loss feels like 10. Even if this Yankees losing streak comes on the heels of an 8-2 stretch, the pressure to win each and every game compounds.
With that, the Yankees turn to Jaime Garcia to take the bump in game two of the four-game set in Cleveland. Garcia is making his first start as a Yankee, but the change is nothing new. Each of his last three outings has been for a different team. He pitched for the Braves on July 21, was traded to the Twins on July 24, pitched on the road on July 28, was traded to the Yankees on July 30 without ever stepping foot in Minnesota, and is now set to start for the Yankees tonight. To reiterate, all of that happened in a fortnight.
Over 19 starts this season, Garcia is 5-7 with a 4.29 ERA. He faces Cleveland for the first time and will go up against Trevor Bauer who owns a 9-8 record with a 5.25 ERA over 20 starts. Bauer hasn’t been successful against the Yanks in his career, going 1-4 with a 5.34 ERA in six starts.
The Yankees will try to capitalize on Bauer’s history of struggles against New York as they desperately need some power and timely hitting to break out of their offensive funk. Aaron Judge, Matt Holliday, and Todd Frazier all return from rest to tonight’s lineup. Yankees fans hold their collective breath to see if the day off was able to spark some life into the power hitters.
Here’s to hoping that Judge hits one to Quicken Loans Arena and gives LeBron a souvenir!
