After a much needed day off, the Yankees are back on the road. Tonight the club starts a three-game set against the Detroit Tigers. More importantly, Masahiro Tanaka is making his return after a stint on the 10-day disabled list. The right-hander owns a 4.92 ERA across 133.2 innings this season. He's performed better of late, though, posting a 3.54 ERA over the second half. If the Yankees are serious about making a playoff push, they're going to need Tanaka to stay healthy and pitch well down the stretch.
The Tigers, meanwhile, turn to Matt Boyd. The young southpaw has pitched to a 5.70 ERA over 90 innings this season. The soft-tosser has split his time between the rotation and the bullpen. It would be nice if the Yankees could get to him early and make this one a laugher. It's been far too long since they've done that. I don't know about you, but I've had my fill of nail-biting bullpen situations. Put up a crooked number against Boyd and pad that Wild Card lead.
First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 PM and you can watch on YES.
