The Yankees followed up a couple of dispiriting losses to the division rival Red Sox with a pair of uplifting wins over the crosstown rival Mets. The series now shifts to Queens for the second half of this four-game set. Jaime Garcia will make his third start as a Yankee, after allowing three runs across 5.2 innings against Boston in his last start. Garcia has a 97 ERA+ but a strong 3.64 FIP on the year, and represents a pretty important part of the rotation now that CC Sabathia and Masahiro Tanaka have hit the DL.
The Mets will counter with Robert Gsellman, who will make his first start since injuring his hamstring in late June. The 23-year-old righty had a good rookie campaign in 2016, but has struggled to the tune of a 69 ERA+ in 76 innings this season. Gsellman also pitched poorly during his Double-A rehab stint, which gave him the opportunity to amusingly dismiss his own GM's criticism of said rehab stint.
The game is set for 7:05 EST and can be seen on the YES Network.
