Around the Empire
Newsday | David Lennon: The long tease is finally over. Aaron Judge is going to compete in the Home Run Derby and will hopefully grace our eyes with powerful, downright pornographic dingers. Joining him will be fellow teammate Gary Sanchez. Judge wanted to wait until the All-Star Game selection was out in the open before making the announcement official. Joe Girardi, Brian Cashman, and the Yankees organization have no concerns with Judge competing. It’s just batting practice and we’ve seen what he does during that. Haven’t we, outfield television sets?
MLB.com | Bryan Hoch: Masahiro Tanaka pitched like Masahiro Tanaka last night. That is starting to once again be a good thing and not a bad thing. This was Tanaka’s third straight solid outing in a row and it is a pleasure to see. If Tanaka has finally worked out his mechanics, that would be a huge boost to the Yankees as they close out the first half of the season.
New York Daily News | Daniel Popper: As Shah reported yesterday, help is on the way for the Yankees’ pitching staff. Both CC Sabathia and Adam Warren are expected to come off the DL today. Barring anything unexpected, Sabathia is scheduled to start tonight’s game. Sabathia was pitching extremely well before his stint on the DL. Adam Warren will hopefully provide some stability to a recently unstable bullpen. One can hope.
Newsday | David Lennon: Sad news regarding Greg Bird. His rehab activities were shut down and he will again see another round of specialists to investigate the mysterious foot injury. Cashman stated that they are still unclear exactly what is causing Bird pain. There is a chance that he could require surgery, which would undoubtedly end his 2017 season. Just awful news.
MLB.com | Bryan Hoch: Finally, Sir Didi Gregorius needs our help. Five members of the Yankees are headed to Miami to attend the All-Star Game and Sir Didi could be Yankee number six if you vote for him. The Yankees are sweetening the deal by offering fans who vote for Sir Didi a chance to sit in the Judge’s Chambers at Yankee Stadium. While a reward shouldn’t be necessary, since voting for Sir Didi is the right thing to do, it is nice of the Yankees to do so. Click on the link for more Dididetails. Look below for yet another reason to vote for him.
