The Yankees are in first place in the AL East on July 31st. Ask yourself what you would have thought of that if someone told you that would be true back in February. Everyone expected that the Yankees would at least need another season or two of rebuilding in order to actually compete, but the emergence of young stars has put them ahead of schedule.
New York is going for it right now. They proved that when they made the trade for David Robertson and Tommy Kahnle to boost a struggling bullpen. They solidified that position by bringing in Sonny Gray at the deadline. All these moves were done with one goal in mind: win the division and get this team back to the playoffs.
It’s a goal that’s very attainable. Despite struggling mightily for a month, no one was able to put the Yankees away. They’ve gotten on a roll again since then, and look very much like a team that can fight until the end for the division crown. The reinforcements they’ve just brought in make that goal one that can come true this season.
Now is a perfect time for fans to show their appreciation of the moves that the Yankees have made. Yankee Stadium has sounded fantastic lately, and hopefully it continues. It’s kind of corny to say, but there are few things like a baseball game as the summer draws to a close and the air starts getting chilly. It’s even better when you can experience that in the middle of a playoff hunt.
Various circumstances have made it a little harder to be all-in on the Yankees in recent years. Things might be changing, though. This team is incredibly likable for the first time in a long time, and the front office seems dedicated to making sure the best product is on the field where they can. Supporting that so it continues can be so important to the continued success of the team.
Pick up some Judge gear, grab some tickets, and strap in for what should be an exciting finish to the season. The Yankees seem like they could be playing further into the season than we’ve been accustomed to in recent seasons, so you may have a little longer than normal to fit a game into your evening plans. It should be fun.
