The Yankees go for the series win this afternoon against the Tampa Bay Rays. New York is on a bit of a winning streak at the moment. They took three out of four games from the Mariners last week and swept the two-game series against the Reds. The Yankees have won five in a row this week and have a chance to solidify their spot atop the American League East division.
Today, Caleb Smith takes the mound once again. Things have not gone well for him in his first taste of the majors. He has allowed six runs on nine hits in just 6.2 innings of work. His first start ended after 3.2 innings because he had already surrendered four runs by then. This is why the Yankees need to make a move for another starter. Blake Snell, meanwhile, has a 4.86 ERA thanks in part of an astronomical 5.4 BB/9, which should at least even out the matchup.
Today's game will be broadcasted on WPIX and start at 1:05 PM.
