Around the Empire
Newsday | Erik Boland: Do you know who is doing well? Sir Didi Gregorius is doing well. Really well. He has been hitting really well since the All-Star break. More than that though, Sir Didi is putting up numbers that match up with some of the best shortstops in the American League. The American League has shortstops named Carlos Correa, Francisco Lindor, and Xander Bogaerts. None of them tweet as well as Sir Didi though. His accomplishments have not gone unnoticed by his teammates and managers. We got him for literally Shane Greene.
Baseball America | Kyle Glaser: Do you know who else is doing well? Aaron Judge is doing well. Cody Bellinger is also doing well, although he is doing well on a different team in a different division in a different league. Baseball is funny like that. The two rookies met for the first time in Miami at the Home Run Derby. Both are in line for both the Rookie of the Year award and possibly the MVP award. This article provides a good look at two of the best young players in baseball in two of the biggest baseball markets.
New York Post | Joel Sherman: The Yankees need another starting pitcher. Jose Quintana is a Cub. Jaime Garcia, as of yesterday, is now a Twin. With those animorph and cloning moves made by Chicago and Minnesota, Sonny Gray is still very much on the Yankees’ radar. Winning the division and making the playoffs is still on their radar as well. Gray would help with that. How much the Yankees’ would be willing to give up for him remains to be seen though.
New York Daily News | Mike Mazzeo: The Bronx Bombers return to the Bronx after an 11-game road trip. They won six out of those eleven games. That’s good. There are some reason to be optimistic about the Yankees of the second half. This article lists five of them. Shockingly, my link dumpage ability is not listed among the five reasons. Rude, Daily News. Rude.
