Take three out of four from Seattle, please. That really should be all we have to say today.
A special day for the Yankees as 25 year old lefthander Caleb Smith will get his first MLB start after Luis Cessa was scratched for badness bullpen depth instead. Smith's done well in AAA, with a 2.07 ERA and 8.9 K/9 with Scranton Wilkes-Barre, and made his MLB debut Monday against the Twins, striking out five in three innings.
Yovani Gallardo counters for the Mariners. He's been bad this year, with a 5.59 ERA and just 6.72 K/9. Gallardo is rejoining the staff after a midseason demotion to the bullpen. Welcome him accordingly, Aaron Judge, Gary Sanchez et al.
Matt Holliday gets another start at DH. He owns a triple slash of .342/.417/.757 with four home runs in 42 PAs against Gallardo, so this seems like an ideal time to bust out of his slump.
First pitch is at 4:10pm EDT, on YES and WFAN.
