FanRag Sports | Jesse Borek: Thanks to a 16-inning affair on Saturday, the Yankees were forced to do a lot of shuffling with their pitching. CC Sabathia wasn’t slated to start the Sunday afternoon game and Bryan Mitchell was. However, they wanted Mitchell available out of the bullpen so the Yankees had Sabathia start on Sunday afternoon. Now Mitchell finally get his chance and start tonight versus the Twins.
New York Daily News | Mike Mazzeo: Speaking of the 16-inning marathon on Saturday, the Yankees’ bullpen needed some rest. They were forced to pitch nine innings on Saturday and then there was a doubleheader on Sunday, so it was slated to be a rough weekend. However, thanks to CC Sabathia and Masahiro Tanaka, the bullpen got a much needed break yesterday as both starters went deep in their outings and gave the team length.
New York Post | George A. King III: A doubleheader the day after a 16-inning marathon (I’m beginning to see a trend with the news today) is one of the most taxing things. Ben Heller and Jonathan Holder both pitched brilliantly on Saturday, combining for five scoreless innings, and both were rewarded by being optioned to Triple-A. In their place, Caleb Smith and Domingo German were called up.
