The Judge’s Chambers
New York Daily News | Mike Mazzeo: High praise has been raining in for Aaron Judge all season long and increased this week. Now it goes to another level as MLB commissioner Rob Manfred says he believes that Judge could be the next “face of baseball.” In typical Judge fashion, he was appreciative of the praise but said his job is to focus on what he does on the field and nothing else.
Yahoo Sports | Jeff Passan: The world had heard tales of the large baseball bashing boy named Aaron Judge, but on Monday they witnessed the legend. Judge’s performance at the Home Run Derby, which ended with him being crowned champion, introduced the world to baseball’s newest star. Whether he’s the face of baseball or not is up for debate, but he is undoubtedly a star. Judge amazed everyone with how hard, how far, and how many balls he hit.
“After too many Joffrey Baratheons, Judge may be Daenerys Stormborn, his dragon a bat.”
Sporting News | Marcus DiNitto: Aaron Judge isn’t just in the news often, he is the news these days. While Judge was still in the minors, he inked an endorsement deal with Under Armour. Now Under Armour is being smart and locking him up to a long-term extension. It’s almost like they see his potential and want to lock him up now so they don’t risk losing him. Hmm.
Around the Empire
New York Daily News | NYDN Staff: Sorry Marlins fans, the chances of your team becoming the Marlin2 just got slimmer. Derek Jeter is no longer favored to win the bid to purchase the Marlins. It seems there are three bids in and all at around the same price range. Jorge Mas is now the favorite to win the bid as he actually has the cash to buy the team unlike Jeter who needed
a GoFundMe page to recruit investors like NBA legend Michael Jordan, who has joined Jeter’s bid.
Newsday: The Yankees have unconditionally released Chris Carter. The first time the Yankees DFA’d Carter, he accepted an assignment to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. This time, the Yankees had no desire to try the Carter experiment again and just cut bait with him.
But first, let me take a selfie
Nelson Cruz stopping to take a picture with Joe West in the middle of the game was my favorite part of the All-Star game. He tried taking a selfie first before asking Yadier Molina to take the picture. I love Gary in the background “what’s happening now?”
