Around the Empire
New York Post | Ken Davidoff: June sucks. There, I said it. The Yankees are dropping like flies, as Starlin Castro might be headed to the DL with a right hamstring strain. Thankfully, the Yankees have actual depth to help cope with these injuries. Yankee prospect Tyler Wade is being called up from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. He will be placed on the 40-man roster. How long he is up will depend on the length of Castro’s DL stint. If he has to play for an extended period, Wade will hopefully see the majority of the playing time there. PSA’s senior Tyler correspondent Tyler Norton will have more on Tyler later today.
Newsday | Erik Boland: Aaron Judge is a popular baseball player. Our large adult son is leading the American League in All-Star Votes and is second in the majors behind Future Yankee Bryce Harper. He has officially been invited to the Home Run Derby but he has not officially accepted the invitation. Judge is hopefully just teasing us by waiting to accept because a Home Run Derby without Judge would just be the saddest thing ever. Judge also hopes that some of his teammates join him at the All-Star Game. Gary Sanchez should go. Didi Gregorius should go just for his tweets alone.
New York Post | George A King III: June sucks. Yep, I said it again. Matt Holliday is still not feeling well and the Yankees are unclear on why. Holliday has been sidelined due to an allergic reaction to something he ate. He has been feverish and achy and it is not going away. Girardi is hoping that he doesn’t have to put him on the DL. They will find out more after he undergoes some tests today.
The New York Times | Hannah Alani: The New York Yankees are doing well and will hopefully see a rise in attendance. Meanwhile, on Staten Island, the Yankees of Staten Island are seeing a drop in attendance. Will Smith, the SI Yanks team president, says the lack of parking could be a factor due to the new New York Wheel and Empire Outlets being build on both sides of the stadium. It could also be that more people want to see the likes of Gary Sanchez and Aaron Judge in the Bronx.
New York Daily News | Christian Red: In case you were unaware, yesterday was Derek Jeter’s birthday. The Yankees showed him the proper re-two-pect by winning. Jeter’s friends, Mariano Rivera and Jorge Posada, which is just really cool to say, hopes that Jeter will be the owner of the Miami Marlins. They both understand that it’s Jeter’s dream to do so and hope to support their friend. Jeter is still seeking investors to help him with the price tag.
