It's funny to say that a game on June 21st is a must-win, but this game is a must-win. The Yankees are on a seven-game losing streak and the bleeding has to stop. They can't continue to free fall. I don't care how it gets done, either. It doesn't matter if it's a one-run game or a laugher of a blowout. Just win.
Rookie southpaw Jordan Montgomery looks to play stopper. He's pitched to 3.78 ERA over twelve starts this season. The Yankees need him to keep up the good work and give the club some distance tonight. Outside of Dellin Betances, the entire bullpen is unreliable at the moment. Montgomery will face off against Ricky Nolasco, who is not having a good season by any means. He owns a 5.01 ERA with a sky-high 2.39 HR/9 rate. In theory, this is the type of pitcher the Bombers should beat up on. Now watch him toss a perfect game or something.
First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM. You can watch on YES locally or MLB Network for our out-of-market readers.
