Around the Empire
Newsday | Steven Marcus: Let’s begin today’s link dump with a positive link. Aaron Judge is hitting home runs. More than that, he’s hitting strong, powerful, and downright pornographic home runs. Some have compared his home runs to the kind that Mickey Mantle hit back in the day. Now before some fans get all “Judge-Mantle” on us, Pinstripe Alley fully understands that Judge has a long, long, long way to go before he has the caché of number seven. Things like Statcast didn’t exist in the Mick’s era. It’s still relatively new now. With or without it, it’s painfully obvious that Judge hits home runs harder than most players do today.
MLB.com | Matt Kardos: The Yankees’ bullpen has been bad lately. Outside of Dellin Betances, who hasn’t gotten much work lately due to them losing or blowing out their opponents, is currently the only really reliable arm in the pen. Help may be on the horizon as Aroldis Chapman is set to return this weekend. His outing in Double-A Trenton was a bit erratic yesterday. While he did hit over 100MPH with a couple of pitches, his control was not all that great. He still felt healthy out there, which is the most important thing these days. In theory.
New York Daily News | Mike Mazzeo: The road trip from hell rolls onward. The Yankees have been hit with the injury bug and it, quite frankly, stinks. Both Gary Sanchez and Aaron Hicks, two of their hottest hitters, are day-to-day. As of right now, they will hopefully avoid the DL. Adam Warren will not though, as he was put on the 10-day DL with a right shoulder inflammation. Mason Williams and Kyle Higashioka have been called up from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
Yankees Magazine | Nathan Maciborski: Did you know that Aaron Judge and Ronald Torreyes pictures and GIFs are some of my favorite things about this season? They are. It turns out that the two of them have a lot in common with how they approach each game. This article has a pretty good look at the two of them. Please read it.
