The 7 game road trip continues tonight for the New York Yankees as the team begins their series with the Oakland Athletics. The Yankees took two out of three in the last series between these two teams, in the Bronx in late May.
Jordan Montgomery gets the ball for the Yankees tonight, and the kid's been nothing if not outstanding this season. The rookie lefthander has thrown 63.1 innings over 11 starts, with a 3.55 ERA and 3.57 FIP in 2017. He did not appear in the series against Oakland in May, so this will be his first time facing the right-handed-heavy Athletics lineup.
Sonny Gray counters for the A's. The talented right hander has dealt with injuries for a couple of seasons now, and so tonight's Yankee lineup only has 45 career ABs against him, owning a .267/.358/.400 triple slash in that span. Oakland does feature a near-historically terrible defense, so the trick tonight may just be putting the ball in play and seeing if the A's beat themselves.
First pitch is at 10:05pm EDT, on YES and WFAN
