MLB Draft 2017: Grading the Yankees’ second round pick - RHP Matt Sauer

The Yankees doubled up on right-handed pitchers with their second pick of the draft.

If you were wondering where the money the Yankees were trying to save with their first round pick was going, you may not need to look any farther than their second round pick. Right-hander Matt Sauer from Righetti High School in California is a University of Arizona commit who will likely need above slot money in order to become a Yankee instead of a Wildcat.

Sauer has eye-popping statistics as a prep pitcher with a minuscule ERA and a fastball that can hit 97 mph. Those kind of numbers from such a young player are certainly encouraging to see after what is seen by some as a lackluster start to the draft.
