The Yankees have fallen into their first rut since starting the season 1-4, dropping seven of their last 10 games to fall out of first place in the AL East. It was inevitable that they wouldn't be able to maintain the scorching pace set by a 21-9 start, but the Yankees will need to break out of this slump soon, or risk losing a step in what's shaping up to be a tough division race.
CC Sabathia will start today, trying to build off his best start in weeks the last time out. Sabathia twirled 6.2 innings of shutout ball against the Royals last week, bringing his season ERA into more manageable territory at 4.93. The Rays will send out their ace, Chris Archer, in opposition. Archer (3.70 ERA, 3.17 FIP) hasn't quite hit his stride yet this season, but he is still one of the more formidable right-handers in the game. Not exactly who the Yankees want to deal with as they try to avoid a four-game losing streak.
The game starts at 1:10 EST and can be seen on the YES Network.
