The Yankees have recovered well from what was a pretty ugly weekend. After winning the first two games at Kauffman Stadium, they take on the Royals tonight with a chance at their fifth series sweep of the season.
Jordan Montgomery makes his sixth career start tonight, with a record of 2-2 and sporting a 4.19 ERA and 3.65 FIP. He tied his career high in strikeouts with 7 last Friday against the Astros. I'd be happy with another 7 strikeouts, but hopefully fewer hits and runs allowed.
Danny Duffy counters for the Royals in tonight's battle of left-handers. Duffy was pegged to be the Royals' best pitcher this season, and aside from Jason Vargas's unexpected success, Duffy has lived up to expectations, with a 3.38 ERA and 3.36 FIP. Like Vargas, Duffy likely has an unsustainable HR/FB% (3.6%), and the Yankees are known to hit home runs.
First pitch is at 8:15pm, on FS1 tonight, along with WFAN. If you're tuning in on television, Alex Rodriguez is making his commentary debut with the Fox Sports crew. I can't wait to see what Play-by-Play-Rod is like in the booth full time.
