The Yankees couldn't get a big hit with runners on last night, and CC Sabathia struggled with most of his pitches in a loss to the Pirates. Today is a new day, and that day brings Michael Pineda to the mound. Pineda has been pretty good so far this season, including flirting with a perfect game in the home opener. Hopefully he's that kind of on again today.
Today's lineup from Joe Girardi is a bit different, but still familiar. Brett Gardner sits in favor of Aaron Hicks, which means Jacoby Ellsbury returns to the top of the lineup. The middle of the lineup featuring Hicks, Chase Headley, Starlin Castro, and Aaron Judge is a pretty formidable one. Those guys have gotten off to good to great starts in 2017.
Before anyone complains too much (ha!) about last night, please try to remember that the Yankees are doing what they are doing right now without the services of Didi Gregorius and Gary Sanchez. They are doing this with Greg Bird getting off to a bad start, Gardner not hitting well, and Masahiro Tanaka not yet hitting his full stride. They just had an 8-1 home stand. Games like yesterday are frustrating, but not dooming by any means.
Just means it's time to start a new streak. Go Yankees, go baseball.
