The New York Yankees were in seventh heaven last night on Sunday Night Baseball, downing the St. Louis Cardinals 9-3 behind a strong Michael Pineda start. The win brought the Yankees to within a half game of the AL East lead, for all that that means on April 17th.

It's a battle of lefties tonight in the Bronx, as Jordan Montgomery makes his second career start opposite Derek Holland. The Yankees have an OPS of just .499 in 72 PAs against left-handers this season, and will certainly look to improve on that mark against Holland, who was less-than-good in 2016 but is coming off a strong start against Cleveland. Montgomery, meanwhile, gave up two earned runs while striking out seven in his debut against the Tampa Bay Rays last Wednesday. A repeat performance would be welcome.

Matt Holliday returns to the lineup tonight, in the three spot as the designated hitter. Chris Carter starts at first against a lefty, although after Greg Bird's big night, it wouldn't be surprising to see him pinch hit when and if the White Sox bring in a right handed reliever.

First pitch is at 7:05pm, catch the game on YES, MLB.tv, and WFAN.
