The offseason isn’t quite over, but the Yankees’ roster seems to be just about set. It can be difficult to keep track of everything happening, so here is a recap of every transaction the Yankees have made since the 2016 season ended.
October 5, 2016: Right-handed pitcher Anthony Swarzak elected free agency. He has since signed with the Chicago White Sox. Additionally, the Angels claimed pitchers Kirby Yates and Blake Parker off waivers.
October 6, 2016: Outfielder Eric Young Jr. declined outright assignment to Triple-A and elected free agency. He has signed a minor league deal with the Angels.
October 7, 2016: The Yankees signed Larry Rothschild to a one-year contract.
October 10, 2016: Infielder Donovan Solano elected free agency. He was later re-signed to a minor league deal.
October 21, 2016: The Yankees signed right-handed pitcher Matthew Wivinis to a minor league contract.
November 2, 2016: Conor Mullee was claimed off waivers by the Chicago Cubs.
November 3, 2016: Billy Butler and Mark Teixeira elected free agency.
November 4, 2016: The Yankees added Kyle Higashioka and Domingo German to the 40-man roster.
November 8, 2016: Branden Pinder was designated for assignment. The Yankees also claimed Joe Mantiply off waivers from the Tigers.
November 17, 2016: The Yankees traded Brian McCann and cash to the Astros for right-handed pitchers Albert Abreu and Jorge Guzman.
November 18, 2016: Nathan Eovaldi, Joe Mantiply, and Nick Rumbelow were each designated for for assignment. All three were released the following week. The Yankees have since re-signed Rumbelow and Mantiply to minor league deals, and Mantiply was invited to spring training.
The Yankees also traded lefty James Pazos to the Seattle Mariners for right-handed pitcher Zach Littell.
Yefrey Ramirez, Miguel Andujar, Jorge Mateo, Giovanny Gallegos, Ronald Herrera, and Dietrich Enns were all protected from the Rule 5 Draft and added to the 40-man roster.
December 2, 2016: The Yankees non-tendered Jacob Lindgren. He has since signed a one-year contract with the Atlanta Braves.
December 7, 2016: The team signed Matt Holliday to a one-year deal worth $13 million.
December 8, 2016: Luis Torrens was claimed off waivers by the Cincinnati Reds. The Arizona Diamondbacks claimed pitcher Tyler Jones. The Pittsburgh Pirates claimed lefty Tyler Webb, and the Milwaukee Brewers claimed Caleb Smith.
December 10, 2016: The Yankees signed Cito Culver to a minor league contract.
December 12, 2016: Left-handed pitcher Jason Gurka, catcher Kellin Deglan, and third baseman Ruben Tejada each signed minor league contracts, and all three were invited to spring training.
December 15, 2016: Nick Goody was designated for assignment.
The Yankees signed Aroldis Chapman to a five-year, $86 million contract.
December 20, 2016: The team traded Goody to the Cleveland Indians for a Player To Be Named Later or cash.
December 21, 2016: Catcher Wilkin Castillo signed a minor league deal and was invited to spring training.
January 14, 2017: The Yankees signed first baseman Ji-Man Choi to a minor league contract and invited him to spring training.
January 31, 2017: The Yankees invited the following players to spring training: Chance Adams, Brady Lail, Evan Rutckyj, Tyler Wade, Jordan Montgomery, Jorge Saez, Gleyber Torres, Pete Kozma, Dustin Fowler, Francisco Diaz, J.P. Feyereisen, James Kaprielian, Clint Frazier, Daniel Camarena, and Justus Sheffield.
February 7, 2017: Chris Carter signed a one-year, $3 million contract.
February 14, 2017: J.R. Graham and James Reeves were invited to spring training.
February 16, 2017: Richard Bleier was designated for assignment.
February 20, 2017: The Yankees invited Billy McKinney to spring training. Additionally, the Yankees signed Jonathon Niese to a minor league contract and invited him to spring training.
February 21, 2017: Bleier was traded to the Baltimore Orioles for a Player To Be Named Later.
