After a solid win over the Blue Jays yesterday, the Yankees travel to Clearwater, Florida, for another spring matchup with the Phillies. Fresh off being named to the starting rotation, Luis Severino will get the ball.
Today’s game is the Grapefruit League finale for the Yankees, who travel to Atlanta to take on the Braves in their new park to close out spring training. Joe Girardi announced most of the Yankees’ final Opening Day roster decisions earlier today.
Aaron Judge will play right field, and Girardi indicated that he would start Opening Day as well, at last settling the competition between him and Aaron Hicks. Although Rob Refsnyder is in this afternoon’s lineup, he will begin the year in Triple-A Scranton, with Pete Kozma taking the 25th man spot while Didi Gregorius recovers from injury.
Severino’s spring was probably just enough to get him into the rotation. His spring ERA, for whatever that is worth, is hovering around 4, but the Yankees decided to give him a shot at the backend of their rotation.
You can watch the game on MLB.tv at 1:05 pm ET this afternoon.
