Around the Empire

Newsday | Anthony Rieber: Most of the focus has been on the battle for the rotation currently going on in spring training. Meanwhile, the battle for right field is still going strong. It’s Aaron vs. Aaron as Judge and Hicks continue to make Aaron (a run) for the job. Both are having a decent time in spring training. While I think that it should be Judge’s job to lose, the Yankees feel a bit different.

New York Post | George A. King III: The Yankees recently sent Ruben Tejada, Donovan Solano, and Wilkin Castillo to the minor league camp. That leaves them with ten more spots that have to be cut before the fast approaching Opening Day. While this will mean that they will thin out the bullpen a bit, this will soon determine who Didi’s fill-in at SS will be. At least we know that it will not be Tejada.

New York Daily News | Mike Mazzeo: I would just like the point out that the first sentence of this article is kinda painful to read. Well, not painful. Just makes one feel old. Anyway, Blake Rutherford is good. He grew up idolizing Derek Jeter, who was also good. Blake gets to meet his hero and he apparently gets nervous around him because he’s Derek Jeter. This is adorable.

New York Post | George A. King III: Gleyber Torres is also good. It was announced yesterday that Gleyber won the James P. Dawson award, which is an award given out to the top rookie in the Yankees camp. Gleyber will start the year in Double-A Trenton. How long he’ll be there for is anyone’s guess. Most guesses are that he won’t be there for long.
