It has been months, but baseball is finally back. Well, as much as spring training can be called baseball. It’s players you know playing the game of baseball. Best of all, it’s on television.
The Yankees open their Grapefruit League play this afternoon against the Phillies. Steinbrenner Field has been treated to $40 million worth of renovations since fans last checked out the Yankees’ spring training home.
Bryan Mitchell gets the start for New York. Most of the expected regulars are scheduled to start the game with the exception of Jacoby Ellsbury, who was late arriving to camp while awaiting the birth of his daughter.
As is the usual case with spring training, the regulars probably won’t stick around for long. That could give us our first look at prospects such as Gleyber Torres and Clint Frazier. It should be a fairly exciting day.
If you’re lucky enough to be able to tune in from work or at home, the game will be aired on YES at 1:00 pm ET. You can also check out a large chunk of Yankees spring training games through MLB.tv.
