Springfield | Kent Brockman: AHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.
MLB.com | Bryan Hoch: Now that the maniacal laughter is out of the way, let’s get to the dump. In an effort to prove that his upcoming 5-year, $25 million contract is somehow a gross underpay, Brian Cashman traded Starlin Castro, Jorge Guzman, and Jose Devers for reigning NL MVP Giancarlo Stanton. The deal is not officially official yet. They are still waiting on the physical. In order to pull off this literal Pinstripe Alley crazy fanpost trade suggestion, the Yankees will be taking on the majority of the contract. They could get $30 million in relief from Miami, but not for the first three years and only if Giancarlo doesn’t opt out in 2020. There is sure to be more on this story in the coming days.
Newsday | David Lennon: It’s important to remember some of the reasons why Giancarlo Stanton will be wearing pinstripes in 2018. First off, Stanton used his NTC to reject trades to the Giants and Cardinals. Second, Stanton made it clear that the Dodgers and Yankees were his preferred choices. Third, due to the desperation to get rid of his expensive contract, the Marlins were willing to accept the aforementioned players for him. Fourth, I love Brian Cashman. The Yankees were completely in the driver’s seat here. It was pretty much way way WAY too good of an opportunity to pass up.
SBNation | Grant Brisbee: Continuing on the idea of why the Yankees had to trade for Giancarlo Stanton, SBNation’s very own Grant Brisbee offers his take on things. As per usual, my own words cannot compete with Grant’s words. Just read his.
CBS Sports | Matt Snyder: Because I am not tired of typing it, Giancarlo Stanton will be a New York Yankee next year. This opens up a lot of questions going forward. Will Judge or Stanton move to left field? Can the Yankees move Jacoby Ellsbury’s contract during the Winter Meetings? What will John Sterling’s HR call for Stanton be? What about Bryce Harper and Manny Machado in 2018? It was expected that the Yankees would make a play for one of these 2018 mega free agents. I mean, they still could. It seems more likely that Machado would be the one the go after. In case you’re curious, this article takes a look at where Harper could end up.
New York Post | George A. King III: Giancarlo Stanton. A Yankee. I’m a fan. Tanya Bondurant is a fan. Greg Bird, who hit three home runs for Tanya at a game, is also a fan. Bird is excited that the Yankees are going all in for 2018. Who can blame him? Baseball cannot come back soon enough.
New York Daily News | Peter Botte: Do you actually know who Giancarlo Stanton is? Do any of us know who anyone truly is? That’s as deep as the dingers Judge & Stanton will hit. Anyway, get to know Giancarlo with this handy dandy article.
