The Yankees escaped the American League Wild Card game on Tuesday when they defeated the Minnesota Twins at Yankee Stadium. They'll now head to Progressive Field in Cleveland to take on the reigning American League champions. Sonny Gray gets the start in Game 1 opposite Trevor Bauer. After Luis Severino failed to record more than one out on Tuesday the Yankees could use a nice, long outing from Gray tonight.
Tonight's lineup is very much like the one Joe Girardi used for the Wild Card game with the exception of Jacoby Ellsbury being replaced at DH by Chase Headley. Headley has pretty good numbers against Bauer, so it makes sense. The Yankees' offense showed a great deal of toughness when they battled back from an early 3-0 deficit Tuesday night, and they will be asked to do something they haven't done a lot of this season: give Gray some run support.
