For the first time in a decade, the Yankees need a new manager. Yesterday, the team and Joe Girardi announced that they have parted ways. As the news emerged, it became clear that this decision primarily came from the front office. “With a heavy heart, I come to you because the Yankees have decided not to bring me back,” Girardi said in a statement.
The news prompted a variety of reactions from the team, media, and fans alike. Some think it’s the right time to inject new blood into the clubhouse. That appears to be the rationale behind Brian Cashman’s decision. “Everything this organization does is done with careful and thorough consideration, and we’ve decided to pursue alternatives for the managerial position,” the Yankees General Manager explained.
Others, however, presume it will be difficult to replace a manager with such an impressive resume. Girardi took over as the Yankees manager prior to the 2008 season. Over that time, he led the Bombers to a 910 – 710 record. He also oversaw a club that made six trips to the postseason. In 2009, his second year with the team, he steered the Yankees to a world championship.
