New York Times | Billy Witz: The father of the young girl who was struck by a baseball spoke publicly for the first time since the incident. Fortunately, the girl is back home now and recovering. The Yankees also finally announced plans to extend the netting both at Yankee Stadium and George M. Steinbrenner Field in Tampa. The exact plans are being finalized and will be made public once they are. Took long enough, but this is a good development. Here’s the team’s full statement:

Yahoo Sports | Ashley Varela: CC Sabathia came out this year and proved last year’s resurrgeance was no fluke. He finished the regular season with a 3.69 ERA, 3.0 BB/9 and 7.3 SO/9 over 148 2/3 innings over 27 starts. Though Sabathia said he’s not worried about the future right now as the playoffs are about to begin, he does indeed plan on pitching in 2018. He says he loves it in New York and loves playing for Joe Girardi, so both parties should have interest in a short-term deal.

New York Daily News | Nicholas Parco: Fans who have Optimum can breathe a sigh of relief. Disney and Altice USA, which owns Optimum, have reached a deal to extend their contract so Optimum can continue airing Disney-owned channels. Had a deal not been agreed to by yesterday, Disney threatened to pull its channels which would include ESPN and which would’ve meant Yankee fans wouldn’t have been able to watch Tuesday night’s Wild Card game. A pretty cool piece that takes quotes from rival players to scout the Yankees. This piece gets quotes on Luis Severino, Masahiro Tanaka, CC Sabathia, Dellin Betances, Aroldis Chapman, Aaron Judge, Gary Sanchez, Didi Gregorius and Starlin Castro. It’s pretty cool to get insight into what other players think of the Yankees.

New York Post | Dan Martin: After Matt Holliday’s strong start to the season, no one could’ve seen his current status coming. Right now, the Yankee DH doesn’t even know if he’ll be in the lineup for Tuesday’s Wild Card game even though he’s had the most success against Twins’ starter Ervin Santana. Holliday hasn’t been right ever since he got Epstein-Barr virus in Oakland. There’s a reason the Athletics were the only team on Holliday’s no-trade clause!

Judge is tall

The Yankees honored Aaron Judge’s historic rookie season by presenting him with a crystal gavel before yesterday’s game. The gesture was because Judge broke the MLB record for home runs by a rookie. I’m more into how much taller Judge is than other human beings. I will never tire of Judge v. human height comparisons.
