Around the Empire

MLB.com | Bryan Hoch: Gary Sanchez has made history. Yes, again. Yesterday afternoon, Sanchez hit his 11th home run of the season. He is now the fastest player in Major League Baseball’s history to get to their 11th home run. Yesterday was only his 23rd game in the majors. Just let that sink in. He’s also nailed six out of nine runners attempting to steal second. That’s not as historic. It’s just a nice fact.

Newsday | Anthony Rieber: CC Sabathia will take the mound for this afternoon’s game against the Orioles. He is coming off one of his best starts of the year against the Mariners. Despite a rocky middle of the season, CC’s early season accolades made him a serious contender for the Comeback Player award. Here’s a look at how Sabathia reinvented himself this year.

New York Daily News | Peter Botte: The Yankees scored thirteen runs yesterday. One of those runs came via a rare double steal attempt by Yankee BFFs Starlin Castro and Didi Gregorius. Orioles’ manager and man who should never smile Buck Showalter has not had the best of luck with replay during this series. The heart weeps.

New York Post | Larry Brooks: Fourteen runs on Friday. Thirteen runs yesterday. Using math, we can determine that the Yankees should score twelve runs today. What I’m getting at is that the offense has been pretty good lately. Right now, the question is if the pitching will hold up. Luis Cessa has been suCessaful in his past two starts. Chad Green had a great start before yesterday’s shaky one. So we’ll see. Either way, don’t stop scoring runs please.
