Around the Empire I Am Gary

MLB.com | Bryan Hoch: It probably shouldn’t surprise you that today’s news starts out with Gary Sanchez. Gary Sanchez continued his Gary Sanchezing last night. The anonymity is now gone. The historic beginning to his career had fans chanting his name last night. Sanchez is just the third player in major league history to hit ten dingers in the first twenty-two games of their career. We are all Gary.

LoHud Yankees Blog | Chad Jennings: While pretty much all the attention is on Gary Sanchez, the Yankees’ best non-Sanchez player has recently been Ronald Torreyes. “Toe” has been starting more games at third base over Headley lately. Girardi is “riding the hot hand” with Torreyes. Headley was the DH last night. Brian McCann was away due to the death of his grandmother. Our condolences to McCann and his family.

Newsday | Laura Albanese: Aaron Judge has cooled off a little bit since his incredible start to the season. Again, this is normal for non-Sanchez prospects. Judge’s strikeout rate is higher than we’d like to see, but this is just the beginning. Girardi is not that concerned for him. As he stated, it’s only been eleven games. Patience.

The 30 | mvorkunov: Mark Feinsand, whom we usually will link to in these link dumps, has been covering the Yankees since 2001. He has seen and reported on a lot during his tenure. This Q&A gives us a look at his career and some insight into everything he’s seen while on the beat.

The Player’s Tribune | Derek Jeter: Finally, former Yankees’ SS and beloved icon who does it his way Derek Jeter talks about the history of his Turn 2 Foundation, which he started in his rookie year. Like Jeter, the foundation has come a long way in the past two decades. A very nice read here.
