Around the Empire
Newsday | Erik Boland: When the Yankees went into full youth movement mode, it meant Brian McCann, through no fault of his own, lost his job to Gary Sanchez. Fortunately, McCann has handled the situation quite well and has not only accepted becoming the full-time DH, but has also bought in to mentoring Sanchez.
LoHud Yankees Blog | Chad Jennings: Yesterday afternoon’s lineup has become the standard following the great 2016 trade deadline fire sale. Gary Sanchez was starting at catcher and Brian McCann starting at designated hitter. This proves one of two things: 1) McCann is expendable and Sanchez can take over catching duties full-time or 2) McCann and Sanchez can co-exist on the same team.
ESPN | Andrew Marchand: Everytime A. Hicks plays, an angel loses its wings. That’s how the saying goes, I believe. Even if it’s not, fans have been getting tired of Hicks and his unfulfilled potential all season long. Even though he’s hit better in August, it’s not enough to make up for the rest of the season. I’m sure that Jackie Bradley Jr. potential is coming any day now.
FanGraphs | David Laurila: Former Yankee Dave Righetti, who has also been the Giants pitching coach since 2000, talked about various pitching philosophies. He also discusses the repertoires and pitch selections of the current Giants’ pitching staff.
Fun Questions
- Try and ignore what the possible return for McCann would be, would you prefer he stayed on the team as DH while Sanchez catches next year or would you prefer the Yankees traded him away?
- A classic: Favorite animated Disney movie?
Song of the Day
Part of Your World by Jodi Benson
It’s Disney Week on Pinstripe Alley. Listen to this song, isn’t it neat? Greg picked possibly my absolute favorite possible theme for a week. This can last for a whole month and I still wouldn’t run out of songs to use. You want Disneymasongs? I got twenty. But who cares? No big deal. I want more. As always, please link us your song of the day.
