Around the Empire

ESPN.com | Andrew Marchand: The Yankees are not out of the hunt for the 2016 playoffs. Gary Sanchez is helping them stay in the race. Besides making the playoffs, the remainder of this season is about seeing who can help the Yankees in 2017. It’s pretty clear that unless Sanchez really falls off a cliff, he’s passed his audition.

LoHud Yankees Blog | Chad Jennings: Luis Cessa and Chad Green were acquired from the Detroit Tigers for reliever Justin Wilson, which was a curious move at the time. With Nathan Eovaldi’s season ending injury, it could wind up being one of the most important trades of the offseason. Cessa was brilliant last night and Green, coming off an impressive start of his own, will be on the mound later today.

New York Post | Dan Martin: While Cessa and Green are seemingly mainstays in the back end of the Yankees starting rotation, Luis Severino is back in Triple-A to work on his changeup. Severino said that regardless of the results, Girardi and company want him to work primarily on throwing the changeup, which he seems to have lost confidence in.

LoHud Yankee Blog | Chad Jennings: Didi Gregorius has been one of the Yankees’ best players this year, if not the best overall. His defense has been as good as ever and his offense has steadily improved since last year. Now is in the heart of the Yankee lineup, a place he has never batted in his entire major league career until now. Sir Didi seems to be handling it well. Spread the news.

Newsday | Jim Baumbach: Outside of creating clever/cringe worthy puns for the young player’s home runs, John Sterling is not apart of the Yankees’ youth movement. Mr. Productive Outs has been broadcasting Yankee games since 1989 and he has a very impressive streak going for himself. John has a Sterling record of 4,453 games called on the radio. Not all of them have contained puns though.

Fun Questions

  • If you could change the Yankees home uniform, what would you want it to look like? (I am aware of my blasphemy and I am prepared for my stoning)
  • What other theme nights would you like to see at Yankee Stadium? (Game of Thrones night, WWE night, etc.)

Song of the Day

Strangers Like Me by Phil Collins

It’s Disney Week on Pinstripe Alley. Since the Yankees are Anaheim and not too far from Disneyland, I figured a week of Disney songs was in order. This one comes from Disney’s Tarzan. It is one of my favorites and very underrated. As always, please link us your song of the day.
