Around the Empire

MiLB.com | Jarah Wright: Yankees first round pick Blake Rutherford has been absolutely crushing it recently. As a result, Rutherford was just awarded Appalachian Player Of The Week honors. Got to love the Blake!

Baseball Prospectus: Analyzing the trade that sent Carlos Beltran to the Rangers in exchange for Dillon Tate and other prospects. Even though Tate has had a rough year, that can be attributed to him just learning his craft as most agree he’s a raw, unpolished arm. Some tweaks to his delivery and it could show why the Yankees took a chance on a talent like him.

Minor League Ball | Wayne Cavadi: The Beltran trade just added to a newly stacked farm system that Brian Cashman gave life to within a week. His additions of Dillon Tate, Erik Swanson, and Nick Green make the farm system even better. And they were already doing quite well for themselves: “Scranton-Wilkes/Barre, Trenton and Tampa all have at least 60 wins and are at least 20 games over .500, while the Charleston RiverDogs were the Sally Southern first half winners”

FanGraphs | Corinne Landrey: The Texas Rangers and Carlos Beltran are a match made in heaven. While the Rangers are six games up in their division, they still had obvious holes in their roster and stood to improve. Thanks to Prince Fielder’s ineffectiveness, the Rangers had the worst production in MLB out of the designated-hitter spot, and after Fielder went down with injury, a spot opened up for Beltran. Wish Beltran the best of luck with his new team!

New York Post | George A. King III: Ivan Nova walked into the Yankees clubhouse today knowing there were talks of him being traded, but thinking he’d still be a Yankee. He began his on-field workouts, and was informed of the trade by the bullpen catcher. Nova didn’t believe it until he saw his name on the TV. Hopefully Pittsburgh can do for Nova what they did for AJ Burnett not too long ago.

Song of the Day

Boys Don’t Cry by The Cure

It’s Breakup Week on Pinstripe Alley. The trade deadline came and went and with that came a flurry of moves that gives the Yankees a whole new outlook. But along with that, the team had to say goodbye and break up with some of its clubhouse favorite in Andrew Miller and Carlos Beltran. Today’s song was a suggestion from PSA’s very own Tyler Norton. As always, please link us your song of the day.
