Around the Empire

MLB.com | Joshua Needelman: Following another rough outing, Luis Severino was again optioned to Triple-A so he can work on his issues. Manager Joe Girardi believes he has the stuff to pitch at the major league level, but Severino just needs to put it together. Most noteworthy, though, is that Girardi also mentioned that it’s still too early to say that Severino isn’t a starter or should be a reliever instead.

New York Daily News | Mike Lupica: Even though he didn’t handle Alex Rodriguez’s last week in the best way possible, Joe Girardi has not just done a good job of managing the Yankees this season, he’s done a great job. Arguably the best “managing” he’s done as the Yankees’ skipper.

NJ.com | Brendan Kuty: The Yankees skipper talks about what it was like when he was playing for the team and catching Mariano Rivera. Girardi discusses why it was so “easy” to catch Rivera and shares his favorite Rivera story..or MOment.

New York Daily News | Daniel Popper: With the Miami Marlins losing slugger Giancarlo Stanton to injury for the rest of the year, they could consider adding Alex Rodriguez to their roster. Michael Hill, the Marlins’ President of Baseball Operations, did acknowledge they will add A-Rod to their list of players who are available and then evaluate the situation, because it’s still unclear whether A-Rod would be interested in playing for another club.

Fun Question

  • Do you agree it’s too early to have the starter/reliever debate regarding Severino? If no, where do you stand on that?
  • Any exciting trips/activities planned for the rest of the summer?

It’s 1996 Week on Pinstripe Alley. We’re taking a look back at songs from 1996 in honor of the 1996 World Series team. Today’s song was primarily chosen because I saw Darius Rucker live about a month ago and he played this song that night. As always, please link us your song of the day.
