Around the Empire
NJ.com | Brendan Kuty: After saying that Alex Rodriguez could play all four games if he wanted to, Joe Girardi backtracked on his promise and didn’t start A-Rod in last night’s game. He also won’t start tonight’s game, but will supposedly start Thursday and Friday. Which is just absolutely ridiculous. Talking about four meaningless games here, let the man play, and don’t kick a man while he’s on the way out especially when Girardi usually defends even his worst players. The biggest reason for not playing A-Rod in all four games is because Joe Girardi is still trying to win games. Which, fine, that’s his job. But to act like four games in a meaningless season are going to matter is absurd.
New York Daily News | Mark Feinsand: Speaking of trying to win, Girardi also mentioned that the youth movement that’s happening right now isn’t just for next year and beyond so they can get a taste of the majors. Sanchez, and eventually Judge/Austin, is here to help the team win now because they’re still “IN IT.” They also added LHP Tommy Layne and RHP Blake Parker to the roster, but Parker has not reported yet.
NJ.com | Brenday Kuty: Getting to know Tommy Layne and what he brings to the Yankees, in addition to his wonderful sideburns that is. Though, I doubt anything would top those sideburns.
NJ.com | Ryan Hatch: Former NFL “quarterback” Tim Tebow is apparently attempting to make the switch to professional baseball. Former Yankee Gary Sheffield watched Tebow hit in cages recently and thinks Tebow has what it takes and could make it to the majors.
Today’s Knuckleball | Joseph Nocco: Conner Mullee, formerly of the Scranton Shuttle, has undergone successful ulnar decompression surgery on his throwing elbow. Originally put on the disabled list in early July, the 28 year old made his major league debut this year after having had three elbow surgeries previously. Hard to say what the future has in store for him, but here’s hoping he can recover!
Fun Question
- What are your thoughts on Joe Girardi’s comments regarding A-Rod?
- Considering Tyler Austin should eventually be called up, what should Sterling’s home run call for him be?
