Around the Empire
New York Post | George A. King III: Yankees shortstop prospect Jorge Mateo was suspended for two weeks yesterday. Supposedly, he was frustrated that fellow prospect Miguel Andujar had been promoted to Double-A Trenton while he has not and let the higher-ups know it.* It’s one thing to vent, but it’s another to call for someone at Trenton to be released, which Mateo allegedly did. He’s still young and young people say dumb things at times. Learn from it and move forward. However, this two week suspension means that he will miss the Futures Game.
*Note: The original version of King's post included this report, but the post has since been updated to exclude it.
New York Daily News | Mark Feinsand: There are many reasons why the Yankees are currently in the position they are. The starting rotation is definitely one of those reasons. Aside from Masahiro Tanaka and CC Sabathia, there has been little consistency from the starters. Even with those two, Sabathia’s last three outings have been meh. Michael Pineda had one good month before last night’s game, Nathan Eovaldi’s abysmal performance over the last six starts has landed him in the pen, and Ivan Nova is Ivan Nova. If the Yankees want to compete, this needs to change.
MLB.com | Bryan Hoch: Masahiro Tanaka pitches better on an extra day of rest. You know it. I know it. Joe Girardi definitely knows it and he let the media know that he knows it. Girardi also let them know that there’s really not much he can do about it, due to scheduling, lack of bullpen options, etc., and that Tanaka is going to have to adjust. He’s not wrong.
Newsday | Ronald Blum: Despite what people may think, Brian Cashman understands the current situation the Yankees are in. As the trade deadline approaches, he will undoubtedly receive trade offers for players and will then make sure the ownership is aware of said offers. Just remember that in regards to the Yankees being buyers or sellers, the ultimate decision to do so is not up to him. On the other hand, Fire Cashman.
Newsday | Erik Boland: In case you haven’t noticed, Chase Headley has become one of the Yankees' better hitters since the middle of May. Headley says that Carlos Beltran, now 2016 All Star Carlos Beltran, helped him fix his swing and adjust his mechanics. Beltran has also struggled in April and he righted himself. If this is the beginning of Carlos Beltran’s future coaching career, it’s off to a pretty good start.

Song of the Day
Transformers Prime Theme by Brian Tyler
It’s Aliens Week on Pinstripe Alley. Today’s theme comes from Transformers Prime, the second best Transformers show ever made. It took elements from Bay’s crap and transformed it into something excellent. Plus, original Optimus Prime and Megatron voice actors back in their roles just adds to it. As always, please link us your song of the day.
