Around the Empire: Yankees news - 7/5/16

Nathan Eovaldi is headed to the pen for now; Rangers and Nationals have scouts looking at the big three; Didi Gregorius had a day he'd like to forget; Carlos Beltran is back in the lineup but not in right field

Hmmmmm I don't feel silly in this hat at all.

Around the Empire

Newsday | Erik Boland: The big news from yesterday is that Nathan Eovaldi was moved to the pen, or TO TEH PEN if you love classic Pinstripe Alley memes. As of right now, Joe Girardi says that this move is a short term plan. If Chad Green continues the same excellent pitching on Friday like he pitched against the Padres, who knows how short term this will be. Perhaps Yankees beat writher Bathan Geovaldi will fill us in later.

New York Post | George A. King III: The Chicago Cubs’ did not have any scouts at Petco Park on Sunday to see Ghidorah in action. However, the Washington Nationals and Texas Rangers both had their scouts there for the third day in a row. The Yankees have told Andrew Miller that they have no intention of trading him, but we’ll see.

New York Daily News | Mark Feinsand: Didi Gregorius has made Yankee fans euphorious (still not a word) this season, as Independence Day birthday boy John Sterling puts it. While he had a fantastic Sunday afternoon, yesterday was a day he would probably like to forget. Didi has been error free since May 26th. Yesterday he committed three errors, something he has never done in his career. Considering that he's probably been our best all around player this year, I think he’s allowed a bad day though. On the other hand, Fire Cashman.

New York Post | George A. King III: Carlos Beltran returned to the Yankees’ lineup yesterday, albeit as the DH. Girardi was not quite ready to put him back in right field yet with his hamstring issues. That could change tonight. Mark Teixeira, after a memorable day of hitting two dingers on Sunday, got the day off yesterday just to rest his knee. Injuries are the worst.

It’s Aliens Week on Pinstripe Alley. Today we celebrate yesterday’s victory over the invading aliens 20 years ago. President Whitmore’s inspirational speech still echoes in our ears to this day. As always, please link us your song of the day.
