Around the Empire

MLB.com | Barry Bloom: Despite of all the trade rumors swirling around the Yankees, especially among their bullpen, the Yankees have reportedly assured Andrew Miller that he will not be traded. YAY!

MLB.com | Bryan Hoch: Speaking of Yankees and trade rumors, Carlos Beltran is another name who has constantly been part of the rumor mill. The switch hitter can block a trade to 15 teams, but outside of that he’s at the mercy of the Yankees. Beltran, however, has said he hopes to remain as he likes living and playing in New York.

New York Daily News | Mark Feinsand: Earlier this year, Carlos Beltran became just the fourth switch hitter to join the 400 home run club. Coming into the season, it seemed like it would be a fun race between Beltran and Mark Teixeira to see who’d reach 400 first. Teixeira’s slow start and Beltran’s hot start put a end to that race before it even began. Yesterday, however, Teixeira joined the 400 home run club, and even hit his 401st. Since coming back from the disabled list, he has four home runs in 25 at-bats.

New York Post | George A. King III: Chad Green’s first major league wasn’t the most impressive, however his second start was more along the lines of what the Yankees believed they had in Green. Joe Girardi said he’s not ready to reveal any information regarding whether or not Green will stay in the rotation, but between his numbers in the minors and his start against the Padres, Green sure is making a case for himself.

NJ.com | Randy Miller: After getting injured against the Rangers, Beltran has missed six straight starts. That number likely would have been less if the Padres were an American League team that had a designated hitter spot in the lineup. Now with the team traveling to Chicago, Beltran will likely start today against the White Sox, if not in right then at least as the DH.

Song of the Day

The X-Files Theme by Mark Snow

It’s Aliens Week on Pinstripe Alley. Today’s song, in case it wasn’t obvious, is the theme song from the hit show, The X-Files. The show actually made a brief short-seasoned return earlier this year. Anyway stick around until about the 1:44 mark where it goes from creepy/cool theme to club music. As always, please link us your song of the day.
