Today was a pretty big day for the Yankees, as they dealt Aroldis Chapman to the Cubs for a package of prospects led by Gleyber Torres. They also reacquired old friend Adam Warren, who will join the big league club, though it's he will not be with the team tonight. Luis Severino was also recalled in case the Yankees need any bullpen help with the long relievers still weary.
However, July 25th will also go down in Astros fans' memories, as today is the major league debut of Alex Bregman, the second overall pick of the 2015 Draft and one of the top prospects in baseball. A natural shortstop blocked by the presence of a somehow even better and younger player (Carlos Correa), Bregman will begin his career at third base.
Dallas Keuchel gets the start in Houston, so that leads to a righty-heavy lineup from Joe Girardi, though Alex Rodriguez will not be in it. The 2015 Cy Young Award winner got off to an awful start in 2016 with a 5.92 ERA through 10 games, but his past 10 outings have been more normal with a 3.52 ERA and .704 OPS against. Lefties give the Yankees fits anyway, so I'm not entirely optimistic.
The Yankees have indicated that they are reluctant to sell pieces beyond Chapman just yet, so this series will be pivotal deciding whether or not Carlos Beltran, Andrew Miller, or other players are moved. We'll see.
First pitch is at 8:10pm from Houston on WPIX or MLB.tv.
