Around the Empire
MLB Daily Dish | Michael Bradburn: According to ESPN’s Buster Olney, the Yankees are going “full bore” in trying to trade closer Aroldis Chapman. While publicly stating they’re not sure whether to buy or sell, the Yankees have reportedly been trying to figure a deal out for a few weeks now.
LoHud Yankees Blog | Chad Jennings: Chad Green was scratched from his scheduled Triple-A start without any real reason given. There are three possibilities for his scratched start: 1) Green is hurt 2) a trade where Green is involved or he’s replacing someone who is or 3) Slot him into the rotation as a sixth starter. If it’s indeed the last reason, it could be a move made to facilitate an extra day of rest for Masahiro Tanaka.
MLB.com | Matt Kelly: The Yankees overall best position player was just recognized for his efforts and awarded the Heart and Hustle Award by members of the MLB Players Alumni Association. Didi Gregorius has been absolutely fantastic this season on both sides of the plate, so it’s nice to seem him get recognized.
New York Times | Tyler Kepner: What’s the best move the Yankees can make at the trade deadline? Wait. Not stand pat, but wait for a team to get desperate. Instead of going around and shopping Chapman, they should let the teams come to them with offers in order to get the best return.
SportsDay Dallas | Evan Grant: The Texas Rangers and the Yankees have been connected in trade rumors for a few weeks now, mostly revolving around Aroldis Chapman or Andrew Miller. However, the Rangers are also looking at Ivan Nova, Nathan Eovaldi, and even CC Sabathia. While it’s unlikely Sabathia goes, it’s interesting that other teams are scouting him out along with other Yankee players.
San Francisco Chronicle | Henry Schulman: Back on June 30th when the Giants played the A’s, Bruce Bochy made news when he elected to forego the designated hitter and let his ace Madison Bumgarner hit in Oakland. This weekend when the Giants come to Yankee Stadium, don’t expect the same. Citing potential heat and the fact the Yankees have three right-handed pitchers lined up, Bochy said that Bumgarner will likely not hit at Yankee Stadium. Rude.
