Around the Empire
Newsday | Erik Boland: Yesterday’s news post mentioned that Didi Gregorius was playing the game of baseball very well. Clearly, I should have called him Sir Didi Gregorius, as he continued his excellent play in yesterday’s victory. His home run against the Indians was his 11th, which is a career best for him. An amazing defensive play some innings later and he is further proving that he is currently the best overall player on the Yankees. You know it. I know it. The Yankees players definitely know it. Spread the news.
LoHud | Chad Jennings: On Friday, Aaron Judge was taken out of the Railriders game due to injury. Yesterday we learned the severity of that injury. Judge was diagnosed with a mild PCL sprain and bone bruise of the left knee and has thus been placed on the DL. There is no official time table for his return. After his torrid month of June, this is sad news. Here’s hoping for a speedy recovery.
NJ.com | Brendan Kuty: Yankees SS prospect Jorge Mateo was suspended for two weeks for violating team policy. Mateo was not happy about it. While some reports had him calling for the Trenton Thunder to release a player so he could be called up, multiple sources say that is not what happened and that the suspension was due to an off-the-field issue. If these sources are to be believed, it’s good to hear that he didn’t call for a potential future teammate to be tossed aside. The plot thickens.
New York Daily News | Mark Feinsand: Chad Green pitched well against the Padres. Chad Green did the opposite of pitching well against the Indians. Yesterday, the Yankees sent him down to Triple-A Scranton and recalled Nick Goody. According to Girardi, this move was not about Friday’s poor performance, but more about getting Green more work at Triple-A during the All Star Break. Interestingly enough, Girardi has not fully committed to Nathan Eovaldi rejoining the rotation yet.
People | Linsday Kimble: Derek Jeter has tied the knot with Hannah Davis and the two of them are officially married. The two of them got married at Meadowood Napa Valley Resort in California yesterday, doing it their way of course. Sources confirmed that the phrase "I now pronounce you hu2band and wife" was uttered. Do not ask me to verify my sources, as I must re2pect their privacy.
Fun Questions
- What would (or did) you choose as the first dance song at your wedding reception?
- Have you ever had a stranger just come up to you and your friends, start talking, and just hang out with you and your friends like he’s part of your crew? (Bonus question, has this stranger ever been under the age of 14?)
Song of the Day
One Love by Bob Marley
It’s Love Week on Pinstripe Alley. Yeah, it’s not the Valentine’s Day season, but I thought that we could all use a little love this week. What better way to start this week than with a little Bob Marley. As always, please link us your song of the day.
