Around the Empire

MLB.com | Bryan Hoch: Last week Mark Teixeira said he was aiming to return to the Yankees on June 24th. It seems that he may have been off by a day. Teixeira will begin a rehab assignment in Scranton on Tuesday, and the plan is for him to play three games, take Friday off and return to the Yankees on Saturday against the Twins.

LoHud Yankees Blog | Chad Jennings: About a month ago Chasen Shreve was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a shoulder issue. Yesterday the Yankees activated him off the disabled list, but in a not-so-surprising twist, optioned him to Triple-A. After a breakout start in 2015, Shreve really fell off the cliff towards the end of the year and hasn’t been very good this season either. Hopefully Shreve can return to form in the minors and be an asset for the Yankees’ bullpen.

Sports Illustrated | Jay Jaffe: A lot has been said of CC Sabathia’s resurgence, which has been one of the few brights spots of this otherwise disappointing season. He worked with Mariano Rivera during spring training who helped him develop the cutter that has given life to Sabathia’s once seemingly over career. If he can keep this up, he can possibly extend his career past his current contract and even get himself back on Hall of Fame track.

NJ.com | Randy Miller: Luis Severino has pitched really well in Triple-A, but the Yankees still want to see more out of him. After his 8.1 inning gem on Saturday, Severino’s ERA is a low 2.25 in the minors this year. Joe Girardi has been monitoring Severino’s starts and sees improvements, but is still looking for something with his location.

New York Post | Mark W. Sanchez: Back when he was with the Mets in 2012, Ike Davis had a Father’s Day that he wouldn’t be forgetting anytime soon. Davis took his father, former Yankees pitcher Ron Davis, out to get oysters for lunch before a game and ended up getting seafood poisoning. He was so sick apparently his teammates were left wondering “is he gonna die?”

Song of the Day

Aquarius (Let the Sunshine in) by The 5th Dimension

It’s still Old Timey Week on Pinstripe Alley. Today’s song is, in my opinion, one of the catchiest songs ever. It’ll now be stuck in my head for the next month, and probably in yours as well. You’re welcome. As always, please link us your song of the day.
