Around the Empire

NJ.com | Randy Miller: Mark Teixeira currently feels that his recovery is going well, even though he's probably aware that there's still a chance he'll need season ending surgery. Nevertheless, Teixeira is keeping a positive attitude towards his injury. He feels that he could start running in a few days. Best of luck, Tex.

Newsday | Erik Boland: Brett Gardner has had quite the hitting streak and Joe Girardi has been impressed. The Yankees manager feels that Gardner is using every part of the field with his hits. It's great to see.

New York Post | George A. King III: While Alex Rodriguez has not been hitting for power lately, Joe Girardi is fine with A-Rod's approach at the plate. He is still making decent contact and driving in runs and Girardi couldn't be happier. Perhaps A-Rod no longer wants to win the wrong way. Thanks Dad.

New York Post | Kevin Kernan: Carlos Beltran has had a pretty great baseball career, which he says was heavily influenced by Roberto Clemente. Beltran watches video of the famous right fielder and is just in awe of how he played the game. Roberto Clemente is a huge inspiration for players other than Beltran. There have been talks of retiring his number across the league, much like Jackie Robinson's number is. Beltran is undoubtedly all for it.

MLB.com | Bryan Hoch: The MLB Draft ended yesterday and the Yankees feel that they drafted well. Here's a brief look at some of the players they drafted. Also, a big shout out to Tanya and Jason for the incredible work they did covering the MLB draft for Pinstripe Alley. As with every draft, they put heart, soul, and a bit of sanity into bringing you as much info as humanly possible. Buy them a pizza or beer or both.
