Around the Empire

Newsday | Erik Boland: Carlos Beltran joined an elite group of ballplayers yesterday afternoon. His solo home run in the fourth inning was his 2,500th career hit, making him one of four players with 2,500 hits, 400 homers, 300 stolen bases and 1,000 walks. Those other three players are named Willie Mays, Barry Bonds, and Alex Rodriguez. They are "okay" at baseball. Sadly, the most likely Hall of Fame bound player was taken out of the game with shoulder tightness. Hopefully he is not bound for the DL. As always, [expletive deleted] the Trop.

New York Post | Kevin Kernan: You might have noticed that Michael Pineda, whom we use to refer to as "Substantial Miguel" on this site, has been anything but that. It feels like whenever he pitches it is almost a guaranteed loss. Both Joe Girardi and Larry Rothschild are not blind to this. With Ivan Nova pitching well enough to stay in the rotation, and with Luis Severino inching his way back, we will see what the Yankees do.

Newsday | Erik Boland: Jacoby Ellsbury has been hitting the ball a lot better lately. This could be further proof that some Yankee players do not like the month of April. Also, Mark Teixeira is not expected to be back until Monday. His currently replacement at first base, Austin Romine, has done well for himself as the backup first baseman and catcher.

USA Today | Alysha Tsuji: In lighter and more adorable news, Alex Rodriguez shared his daughter's Parent's Day worksheet on social media. Sources confirm that while A-Rod is good at baseball and loves it very much, his cooking and apple cutting skills are slightly lackluster. However, his Blackberry typing skills are fast and excellent because of course they are.
