Around the Empire

NY Daily News | Mark Feinsand: The Yankees must give serious consideration to sending Michael Pineda down to Triple-A to work on his stuff.

ESPN | Wallace Matthews: Joe Girardi says the high number of left-handed pitchers the Yankees have faced could attribute to Mark Teixeira's struggles batting left-handed. Instead of letting him pitching against a right-handed starter to work on his lefty swing, Girardi chose to sit Tex against Athletics' starter Kendall Graveman last night.

NY Daily News | Mark Feinsand: Even with his ups and downs, Nathan Eovaldi showed Yankees' fans last year that he has the potential to be a top-of-the-rotation starter. After his performance on Wednesday, "Nasty Nate" is pitching like the Yankees' ace.

NJ.com | Randy Miller: Chase Headley attempts to explain his decision in Wednesday's game against the Diamondbacks where he threw to first to get an out instead of trying to get Jean Segura out at home. Headley explains that it was early in the game and he didn't want to risk a bang-bang play leading to a big inning, so he took the sure out.

MLB.com | Bryan Hoch: Luis Severino is set to play catch this weekend so he can try and work his way back, but whether or not his rotation spot is waiting for him is the question. Even though the Yankees say he'll make at least one rehab start, it seems like for now the plan is for him to rejoin the New York rotation, and that is the right decision.
