PSA Comments of the Day 4/7/16: Talkin' Yankees baseball

What are we talking about? Baseball? We're talking about baseball, man. We're talking about baseball. We're talking about baseball.

Sweet sixteen. That's the amount of runs the Yankees scored in yesterday's "game" against the Astros. But in reality, was it really a game? To quote the great and new Hall of Famer Allen Iverson, "not a game. We talkin' about practice." Granted he was actually talking about practice, whereas this just ended up being batting practice for the Yankees. But the sentiment/question remains the same.

The Yankees batted around in the first inning and Astros starter Colin McHugh left the game with a 135.00 ERA. Isn't the beginning of the season the best? Caitlin recapped yesterday's game but I think the Yankees shortstop also did a noble job summing the game up:

While this didn't have the standard muscle emoji, he was probably just trying not to rub it in. How noble of Didi.

Elsewhere around the league, Travis Story, the Rockies' rookie shortstop hit his fourth home run of the young season. Robinson Cano (sigh) also hit his fourth home run of the season yesterday. It's almost as if he's good at baseball. Miss you, Robbie. Another noteworthy performance came from the Dodgers game against the Padres. Making his Major League debut, pitcher Kenta Maeda pitched six shutout innings for the Dodgers and also hit a solo home run to help his team on both sides of the ball. The best news of the day, however, was that the Pirates beat the Cardinals yet again to complete an opening series sweep. Cardinals losing is never a bad thing.

Back to the Yankees though, Starlin Castro sure has made an impression on the team, as he was a triple away from the cycle yesterday. Then he also did something that no Yankee player did before.

He most certainly is not Stephen Drew, and we're all thankful for that.

Comments of the Day

It was only a bad throw that went really high because there was a human being between him and the first baseman. But ya know, I'm just nitpicking.

Bravo!

ELLSGARD RETURNED TODAY! YAY!

#DALE

Do I feel bad about the Astros burning through their bullpen? I do not.

I LOVE WHEN GOOD THINGS HAPPEN!

VICTORY!

Victor gets his own section for the first victory of the year!

Honorable Mod Mention

Jason wins the HMM for his post regarding MLB and how they're not doing everything they can for player safety. Matt(e) P. gets a special mention, because I'm totally for the Yankees joining the matted helmets movement.

Fun Questions

  • Who ends up with more stolen bases this year, Alex Rodriguez or Chase Headley?
  • Best Power Rangers opening theme?

Song of the Day

Talkin' Yankees Baseball by Terry Cashman

It's Opening Week on Pinstripe Alley. This week we'll be taking a look at songs that have to do with the Yankees. We also use this thread and this site to talk about Yankees baseball. See the connection? No? It's because the song is by Terry Cashman, the GM of the Yankees is Brian Cashman. Duh! As always, please link us your song of the day.

Feel free to use this as your open thread for the day.
