Looking to snap a four game losing streak, the Yankees face the Seattle Mariners in a Sunday afternoon matchup in the Bronx. Pitching for the Yankees is Masahiro Tanaka, who held the Blue Jays to two runs in five innings during his last start. Tanaka clearly didn't have his best stuff last time out, but having decent weather might help him locate his pitches better. He enters with no wins or losses and a 3.38 ERA.
Right handed pitcher Hisashi Iwakuma will pitch for the Mariners. Iwakuma relies on sinkers and splitters, a lot like Tanaka has done this year. But unlike his former teammate in Japan, Iwakuma will occasionally make use of an elevated four seam fastball to put hitters away. Still, as a righty, the Yankees will probably look to send any of Iwakuma's hanging sinkers into the right field bleachers.
The first two games of this current series have been marked by the Yankees' inability to produce with runners in scoring position. Alex Rodriguez has had his fair share of offensive struggles, as he enters the game with a .103 batting average. Hopefully, a pitcher who sits in the high 80's will help A-Rod get his timing back.
