In preparation for the special events of the 2016 season, MLB has released 300 new looks for baseball players to wear and fans to buy. The Yankees will have a new hat and jersey combination for Mother's Day, Father's Day, Memorial Day, and the Fourth of July, as well as a Home Run Derby and All-Star Game hat. Take a look below:
These are always decent designs for a nice day devoted to breast cancer awareness. The hat this year feels a little too "pink hat" but then again hats aren't my thing. The Yankees will be hosting the Red Sox at Yankee Stadium on May 8th, making for their lone home jersey.
Of course camouflage has to be a part of the special event jerseys. What kind of season would it be if all 30 MLB teams were not forced to wear this garbage at least one day out of the year. The Yankees won't even be in the country on May 30th when they face Toronto. Do the Blue Jays honor the Mounties instead?
This is the same design for Mother's Day, but this time it's just blue. On June 19th the Yankees will be in Minnesota to face the Twins.
Fourth of July
This year's Fourth of July set will look a lot like they usually do. You might not be able to see it, but the jersey has blue stars in the lettering. For some reason the cap looks inside out to me.
Home Run Derby
The San Diego Padres will be hosting the 2016 All-Star Game at PETCO Park and they have chosen to go all-out retro with the uniforms this year. The Home Run Derby cap looks like something the team would have worn in the 1970s. It's unlikely any Yankee will be in the event, but who will be wearing one of these on the sidelines as they look on?
The All-Star Game hat is a lot more subtle than it has been in recent years. They use some Padres coloring to accent the logo and a color scheme that fits the California motif they seem to be going for. The American League and National League jerseys are very old-school Padres as well.
It seems like MLB did much better this year than they have done in the past. What do you think?
