Pitchers and catchers are currently working out in Tampa right now, preparing for spring training games, which will begin in about a week. The Yankees full squad will report for duty tomorrow. Baseball, folks. It's beginning to form. Even the early stages of it are pretty exciting. Hearing things like Carlos Beltran mentoring Aaron Judge just puts a smile on my face. Soon.
In AL East news, the Baltimore Orioles are looking to sign outfielder Dexter Fowler. If I were the O's GM, I'd probably want Fowler for the Birdland puns alone. They probably would rather have his baseball talent instead. If Fowler passes the physical, which as of 5AM he has not, his contract is believed to be for three years and $33 million. No shortage of threes in that deal. This still doesn't quite address the Orioles' pitching needs. There's still no word yet on if Yovani Gallardo will pass his physical for the O's, but here's the latest from Buster Olney on the issue.
Sources: O's will not finish the Yovani Gallardo deal if they come to believe a breakdown is likely in the middle of the 3-year contract.
